Some people find it very easy to work with background noise and others find it very hard. I'm afraid that the move to open plan has reduced the productivity of the latter group.

There is strict 'silence' in a library for a reason. Maybe a good solution is to have a quite library type area to work in also.

Does open plan office space increase or reduce staff efficiency? It will definitely promote employee communication but is it good (work related) communication or just meaningless chat/banter. Closed door office space probably helps with concentration also but I'm undecided.

This will let you know if their hearing is within the 'normal' range or not.

Hope it is helpful for some of you out there.

Otherwise I have to spend a week catching up after a holiday. Anything that is time sensitive should not be emailed anyway - a phone call is all if takes. As it is, I usually log on at the weekend to clear emails. PRs take note.
